Course Description: In the course you will be give a survey of classes of instruments that are used in analysis of chemical systems. In particular, spectroscopy, chromatography and electrochemistry. Data analysis and signal processing will also be addressed. The course is designed for upper level undergraduate chemistry majors and chemistry graduate students.
Lecture Meeting: MWF 10:20 -11:15 TCNW 303
Laboratory Meeting: M 12:40-5:15 TCNW 303
Required Materials:
* Textbook - Principles of Instrumental Analysis by Skoog, Holler, Nieman 5th ed.
* Laboratory experiments will be handed out prior to each experiment
* A laboratory notebook
Course Objectives: The material presented and discussed in this course will focus on the principles of why a particular instrumental method works, basic instrumental design and practical applications of the method. This class is designed to help the student to understand the components and complexities that are involved in instrument design as well as being able to choose the right method/instrument for a given analytical problem.
